Galway City Museum – Less than a 5 minute walk from Semple Mill Apartments
Spanish Arch – stands on the left bank of the River Corrib, where Galway’s river meets the sea. The arch is the remainder of a 16th century bastion, added to the town’s walls to protect merchant ships from looting.
“The Latin Quarter” – 500 meters from Semple Mill Apartments. It is the center of Galway’s medieval old town. You will find many restaurants, bars and shops there. “The Quays Bar” in Quay Street is famous for its 400 year old historic bar with live music each night, nearby bars of “Tigh Cóili” and “The King’s Head” will also offer live music.
Galway Cathedral – one of the largest and most impressive buildings in Galway city within a short walking distance from the apartment.
The Promenade in Satlhill – you take a 30 min walk along the canal towards the village of Salthill and the famous Salthill Promenade, locally knows as “The Prom”. Salthill is the seaside area of Galway with many tourist attractions such as the two well known beahes “Blackrock Beach & Diving Tower”, “Ladies Beach”, “Galway Atlantaquaria” , large swimming pool complex “Leisureland” and many cafes, restaurants.
Connemara is a 20 minute drive away. To get there, you need to take the road along the coast past Salthill. Connemara has long been regarded as the real emerald of Ireland.This natural terrain and unspoilt environment offers the visitor a wonderland of sights, experiences, adventure and activities. You can stop just before Barna Village to check out another famous local beach “The Silver Strand” or visit the “Spiddal Craft Village” in the village of Spiddal. The famous town of Clifden is 1.5 hours away from which makes for a lovely drive through the scenic Connemara from Galway. Kylemore Abbey is 25 mins away from Clifden and the Killary harbour. You can take a scenic ferry trip around the Killary fjord.
The Cliffs of Moher which are the main tourist attraction for visitors are approximately a 1.5 hours drive. You can stop at the most photographed castle in Ireland, Dunguaire Castle on the way. “The Ailwee Caves” visitor centre in Co. Clare, which are ancient caves with passages of 1km deep, are also on the way to the cliffs.
The Aran Islands is another scenic day trip with rugged beaches and unspoiled scenery. To get there, you would need to drive to Rossaveal (“Ros a Mhil”) harbour (approx 45 min drive) and take a ferry to the largest island of Inis Mor. One in Inis Mor you can avail of bike hire or horse and cart trip round the island to explore.
